Welcome to our Cultural Conversation series. This that we begin today is a brand new type of conversation and meetings, reading and sharing of ideas and comments, around cultural and intercultural competence topics and issues.
A Brief Overview
Our organization, the International and Heritage Languages Association (IHLA) is a non profit organization based in Edmonton, Alberta, that works as an umbrella entity for community language schools and programs that offer heritage and second language and culture courses. YOu can find our more about us at our website: www.ihla.ca .
This year, 2009-2010, we have planned, amongst other interesting sessions and professional development activities, a cultural/intercultural conversation series. During each meting of our series, school and community leaders meet to talk about cultural topics, bring their own perspectives, discover models and frameworks, and share ideas to more fully and effectively implement cultural elements in second language (SL) classes.
This blog will be the comments repository and activity ideas place of reference for these meetings. Members of our community schools who attend the meetings have looked at these blog entries and will actively contribute all along.
We invite anyone who finds these conversations useful or simply wants to contribute to send your comments to us. We will gladly post information and input that can assist us in deepening everyone's understanding of these relevant topics.
Hope to find you around soon,
IHLA
